ICI248 Harlem Guide

Food and Coffee in Harlem

Eating in Harlem is one of the pleasures of staying here, and much of it is a short walk from the front door.

Here's how the neighborhood is laid out, so you can follow your appetite rather than a fixed itinerary.

The avenues to stroll

Lenox Avenue, also signposted as Malcolm X Boulevard, runs right past us and has cafés and restaurants in both directions. Frederick Douglass Boulevard a few blocks west is another good stretch, and 125th Street mixes quick counters with sit-down rooms among the shops and theaters. A short walk along any of them usually turns up something you'll want to try.

Reserving a table

If there's one meal you'd really like, especially for a group or a weekend evening, it's worth reserving ahead so the table is waiting for you. Weekday lunches tend to be the easiest to take as they come.

Breakfasts and late arrivals

Trader Joe's, Target and Whole Foods Market are all within walking distance, and the kitchen area in your suite makes morning coffee or a late supper simple after a long travel day.
